Luxury Blue Epoxy Chess Set with Carved Borders
Two crafts on one board, and they should not really get along. The dark squares are royal-blue epoxy — modern, glossy, poured and polished level against pale wood. The borders around them are hand-carved: woven ornament panels with wheat and leaf scrollwork running between, the sort of cutting that has been done the same way for a very long time. Resin next to relief carving. It works because neither one is pretending to be the other.
The rest is honest equipment. A 15.7" / 40 cm playing field, bronze coordinate markers set into the frame, cut-out grips at the top and bottom edges so you can lift it from either end, and 32 turned pieces in beech and walnut. It folds to half its width with everything inside. A travel chess set that looks like this is not really about travelling — it is about being able to bring it, which people rarely can with a board they actually like.
