Turquoise-blue epoxy sits in the dark squares of this travel chess set, poured flush into pale beech inside a stippled band, on a small board with a waved edge that folds to a slim case. 30 × 30 cm / 11.8″ × 11.8″ open, handmade in Armenia, with 32 turned wooden pieces, a felt-lined inside and a carrying bag.

This is the wooden chess set for hand luggage. Nothing is scaled down but the size: the blue is poured square by square and polished level with the wood, the coordinates are carved into the pale band beside the field, and the stippling runs right round the edge. The 32 pieces are turned in two woods with felt under every base, so they sit quietly on the resin.

It folds in half on bronze hinges, shuts on a clasp, and the inside is lined in black felt with room for all the pieces. Light in the bag, a proper board on the table.
