Luxury Turquoise Epoxy Chess Set with Bronze Pieces
Seven kilos, and only 15.7" / 40 cm across. That tells you most of what you need to know: this is a small board built like a large one. The dark squares are glossy turquoise epoxy poured against pale maple, set in a shaped case with bronze hinges and a handle cut into the edge, so the whole thing closes like a briefcase and carries like one too.
The army is what the weight is for. Thirty-two ornate bronze figures with sculpted crowns, each standing on a cream epoxy base that picks up the resin in the board — so the pieces and the field belong to each other instead of merely sharing a table. Set them out and this stops being a folding chess set and becomes the thing everyone in the room walks over to look at. Fold it up and it goes under an arm.
