Pale branches of a Tree of Life cover the closed top of this luxury chess table; open it and the top folds out to a 60 cm board with a carved recess for each of the 32 wooden pieces. 70 cm / 27.6″ high on cabriole legs, 30 × 60 cm / 11.8″ × 23.6″ folded, handmade in Armenia.

This is the wooden chess table for the family that plays. The tree sits inside an arched cartouche on a ground of fine lattice, roots and branches pale against the dark stain, and the same lattice runs round the apron between the curved legs. Open, the border is cut into silhouettes — one hollow per piece — so the set lies flush and the top closes on brass hinges with a clasp.

Folded, it is a narrow console 30 cm deep; opened, a full board at chair height with the pieces already in place. The 32 pieces are turned in light and dark wood. The legs bolt on after delivery; the top arrives in a wooden crate.
