Ten sides, one carved column, three scrolled feet: this luxury chess table puts an inlaid board inside a decagon top, on a pedestal wrapped in acanthus leaves, with a drawer in the apron and 32 gold-toned bronze pieces on turned wooden bases. It is 60 cm / 23.6″ across and 70 cm / 27.6″ high, handmade in Armenia from beech.

This is the wooden chess table that works as sculpture between games. The ten-sided top carries lattice and leaf carving in the segments round the square field, with the coordinates on brass roundels; the deep apron is textured all the way round and holds a drawer on a brass pendant pull. Below, the column is carved in acanthus and stands on three pierced, scrolled legs.

The pieces are cast in an openwork pattern with a gold tone — crowned kings and queens, horse-head knights, pierced bishops and rooks — each fixed to a turned wooden base, pale for one side and red-brown for the other. They store in the drawer, so the table stays set and stays the centre of the room.
