A circle instead of a square. The board is turned round, the thick frame carved with flowing scrolls the whole way about, and inside it the dark squares are filled with emerald-green epoxy that marbles as it catches the light. Nothing else in the range looks like it — most chess boards stop at their corners, and this one simply keeps going.
Beneath the field a felt-lined drawer slides out on a brass pull and takes the whole set. That is the quiet advantage of a chess set with storage: no bag on the shelf, no box under the sofa, no missing bishop. The board stays out with its pieces inside it, 9 kg of it, 19.6" / 50 cm across and only 4.3" / 11 cm deep — low enough to live on a coffee table rather than dominate one.
