Chess Set with Storage - Round Blue Epoxy
Turquoise-blue resin poured into the dark squares of a round board, polished flat against warm maple, so the field reads more like water than timber. Around it the thick circular frame is carved with scrolls the whole way about — a lot of cutting, because a curve gives the carver no straight runs to rest on. Set it on a table and it is the only round thing in the room that also happens to be a chess board.
Under the field, a felt-lined drawer glides out on a brass pull with room for all 32 pieces. A chess set with storage solves the problem that ends most chess sets: not damage, but dispersal — a knight in a drawer somewhere, two pawns behind the sofa. Here everything goes back under the board in one movement, and the set stays complete for decades.
