This luxury round chess set with storage puts a square field of emerald-green epoxy inside a circle of dark carved wood, with a felt-lined drawer beneath for the 32 wooden pieces. It is 50 cm / 19.6″ across, 11 cm / 4.3″ high, and handmade in Armenia from beech.

Most wooden chess sets end at their corners; this one keeps going. Outside the pale field the round frame is carved with acanthus leaves in relief on a dotted ground, one spray in each of the four segments, and a rope-and-bead line runs round the rim. The coordinates sit on small brass roundels, the sides are textured, and the whole board stands on four short feet.

The drawer slides out on a brass pull, lined in dark felt, with room for all 32 turned pieces in light and dark wood. Because the board is only 11 cm / 4.3″ high it can stay on a coffee table between games without looking like furniture waiting to be moved.
