This is the wooden chess set that looks like enamel under a lamp. The green is dark enough to read as a jewel and light enough that the pieces never vanish into it; the resin is level with the wood, so the field plays flat, and the frame round it is cut in a fine diamond lattice with brass roundels for the coordinates. The pieces are cast bronze with filigree crowns and horse-head knights, the light side on white bases, the dark on green.

One felt-lined drawer on runners takes the entire army, so the board can sit set up on a table or shelf for as long as you like and be cleared in seconds. Low, heavy and quiet. The chess set with drawers for the room that already has good colour in it.
