Luxury Eagle Heads Chess and Backgammon Table — Handmade in Armenia

An eagle's head is carved at the knee of each leg on this luxury chess and backgammon table, its feathers running down to a clawed foot, with a cast brass eagle in a round recess at each end of the chessboard and another on the apron. The top unfolds into a backgammon field: 60 × 60 cm / 23.6″ × 23.6″ open, 70 cm / 27.6″ high, handmade in Armenia.

As a side table it carries an inlaid chessboard of pale and brown squares, lettered round the edge, in a field of carved lattice that continues onto the apron; the top swings aside over a felt-lined compartment. As a wooden chess and backgammon table it unfolds flat to pale inlaid points with arrowhead tips, a fluted sun-wheel ringed with scrolls in each half, a vine band on the rails and a recess at each corner for the dice cup.

The chess pieces and the checkers are turned wood in pale and dark sets, the checkers with ringed tops; a dark dice cup and two dice go with them. Four bolts free the legs for the plywood crate.
