The top unfolds into a backgammon field on cabriole legs — 60 × 60 cm / 23.6″ × 23.6″ open, 70 cm / 27.6″ high, handmade in Armenia.

This is the wooden chess and backgammon table that lives in the room rather than the cupboard. Closed, it is a side table with an inlaid chessboard, a lattice-carved apron and a drawer; unfolded, the field inside carries pale inlaid points, the coat of arms in each half, scalloped rails and a round recess at each end for the dice cup, with a felt-lined compartment beneath.

The chess army is cast metal — archers, horsemen, columns and robed kings — sixteen gold-toned on cream bases and sixteen darkened on brown; the checkers are pale and dark wooden discs, each with a cast brass coat of arms, kept in a fitted felt tray. The legs unbolt for shipping.
