Luxury Chess and Backgammon Table with Scalloped Points
The points are scalloped rather than cut to a plain triangle, so the playing field has a softer line to it than most boards, and a carved ornament sits at the centre of each half. Closed, the chess board is framed with fine filigree carving. It is a chess table with the top down and a backgammon table the moment you lift it.
A 23.6 x 23.6" / 60 x 60 cm top means you play on the full square rather than a folded half. Every backgammon board in the world has twenty-four points, and almost all of them are plain triangles, because a triangle is quick. Scalloping means cutting a curve down both sides of all twenty-four and matching them to each other — a decision a workshop only makes when it cares more about the board than about the clock.
