Dozens of branch rounds, each with its own rings and bark edge, are cast into dark epoxy and ground flush across both outer faces of this backgammon set, a mosaic of end grain in a walnut frame. 60 × 60 cm / 23.6″ × 23.6″ open, 30 × 60 cm / 11.8″ × 23.6″ closed, handmade in Armenia.

The rounds run from thumb-sized to palm-sized, pale hearts against near-black resin, and the surface is one smooth plane under the hand. Open the wooden backgammon board and the walnut inside carries slender lattice points, a broad ringed disc in each half and a scroll border, all incised into the wood, with carved scalloped rails at the ends and a long recess in each corner for the dice.

Dark and pale wooden checkers and a pair of dice are included, and two brass hinges and side clasps close the case.

Are the rounds real wood? Yes — each is a slice cut across a real branch, set into the frame and cast in dark resin that is then ground level, so bark, rings and epoxy sit flush. Branches do not grow to a pattern, so the layout of rounds on your board will differ from the photos.
