Luxury Russian Chess and Backgammon Table with Coat of Arms
The Russian double-headed eagle is set in bronze into the corners and the drawer front, both heads crowned, the crest raised against carved lattice. Closed, the piece is a chess table with an inlaid board on cabriole legs. Lift the hinged top and it opens into a full backgammon table, bronze checkers and the dice cup waiting underneath.
This is a handmade wooden chess table built for the two games that tend to get played in the same rooms and argued over in the same way. Nothing needs carrying in and nothing needs putting away: the drawer at the front takes the spare pieces, the top stays clear, and the legs unbolt so the table can be crated and moved without a fuss.
