A sun roundel in a beaded ring, basket-weave panels and scroll bands cover the closed lid of this luxury backgammon table, and the same sun returns in each half of the inlaid field when the top unfolds — 60 × 60 cm / 23.6″ × 23.6″, 70 cm / 27.6″ high on carved cabriole legs, handmade in Armenia.

This is the wooden backgammon table that ends the board-on-the-kitchen-table years: the top lifts, unfolds sideways and rests on the frame at playing height, with a felt-lined compartment beneath for the pieces. The apron carries a carved cartouche on each side, the knees of the legs are cut in basket weave, and the whole thing stands square when someone leans in.

The field is inlaid pale points with arrow tips on the dark ground, a flower-filled sun in each half, scalloped rails and a trough at each end. The 32 checkers are carved wooden discs with a flower on the face, sixteen pale and sixteen dark, with a dice cup and dice. The legs unbolt and the table ships in a plywood crate.

Good to Know Before You Buy

How stable is a backgammon table on cabriole legs? Very. The four legs bolt into a heavy beech frame and the folded top rests across the whole of it, so nothing rocks when a player leans in. The roundel, weave and scrolls are carved into the wood, the points are inlaid, and the checkers are carved wooden discs. Nothing is printed.
