Luxury Folding Chess Table with Eight-Point Star — Handmade in Armenia
Handmade in Armenia from beech wood, this folding chess table opens to 23.6 × 23.6 in and stands 27.6 in high (60 × 60 × 70 cm). A carved eight-point star fills the closed top. Open it to reveal the chessboard and a shaped storage recess for each of the 32 wooden pieces. Folded, the top is 11.8 × 23.6 in (30 × 60 cm).
This is the wooden chess table that stores itself. The border of the open board is cut with silhouettes — a king-shaped hollow, a knight-shaped hollow, sixteen a side — so the pieces lie flush and the top closes over them on brass hinges with a clasp. The closed top carries the big star, a small brass star at each end, and lattice cut fine across the ground.
The apron is carved in lattice with a brass star on the front, and the legs curve out to small pad feet. Folded, it is a narrow console against a wall; opened, two chairs and an evening. The legs bolt on after delivery and the top arrives in a wooden crate.
