Luxury Walnut Backgammon Set - Mher and the Lion
Before David of Sassoun, the epic tells of Mher — the hero who met a man-eating lion on the roads of Sasun and faced it with his bare hands. By tearing the lion's mane he earned the name Armenians still teach their children: Mher the Lion. That very moment is master-carved across this Armenian backgammon set in deep relief, hero and beast locked together beneath the mountains.
It is the kind of scene only a master carver takes on — two bodies in motion, a mane mid-tear, a whole landscape behind them — and it is cut into solid walnut, the wood the workshop saves for its finest boards. Stand back and it reads like a monument; lean in and every line of the struggle is there under your fingers.
Inside waits a full 23.6" / 60 cm nardi field — a handmade wooden backgammon board built for the long, loud games heroes' stories are told over. Strength, courage and a little luck: the epic asked for all three, and so will your opponent.
