Luxury Chess and Backgammon Table with Lion Heads
Lions at the top of every leg, paw feet on the floor, bronze lions on the corners and the drawer front. Closed, it is a chess table — inlaid board, lattice carving, the whole piece standing about as quietly as a lion ever does. Lift the top and it becomes a backgammon table with bronze checkers and the dice cup underneath, ready without anyone fetching a thing.
Four carved lions is a lot of table, and that is rather the point of it. This is a handmade chess table for a room that can take a strong piece: a study, a library corner, the end of a long sofa. The front drawer swallows the spare pieces so the top stays clear, and the legs unbolt when the table has to change houses.
