Luxury Walnut Backgammon Set - Emerald River
Hold this one under a lamp and you can see into it. The emerald epoxy running between the live-edge walnut slabs is translucent rather than solid, so the light goes down into the resin and comes back up again — deep green in the wide stretches, almost clear where the river narrows against the bark line. It behaves exactly the way real water does over a stony bed, which is why nobody who picks this board up puts it down quickly.
Everything about the construction is deliberate. Two slabs of walnut, natural edges left intact, set apart at the distance the tree itself decided; emerald resin poured into the gap; the whole thing ground flat and polished until wood and resin are one continuous surface. The knots and figure that most workshops cut out are the whole point here — they are what the river flows around.
Open the clasps, let the bronze hinges swing back, and the full 23.6" / 60 cm playing field is inside, ready for a game five thousand years older than the technique that made the lid. That is a good tension to own: the oldest game in the world on the most modern surface the workshop knows how to build. And like every river board, this one exists exactly once.
