Green Marble Chess Set with Bronze Pieces
Green marble is not a colour anyone manufactures — it is what happened to that stone underground over a very long time, and the veining running through your board runs through no other. Here it is cut into squares against cream, framed by a line of amber onyx and brass coordinate markers. Sit down at it and the first thing you notice is that a stone chess set does not warm up under your hand the way wood does. It stays cool, and somehow that makes the game feel more serious.
Fifteen kilos of it. The bronze pieces stand on marble bases of their own, sixteen light against sixteen dark, cast and finished by hand so the detail holds right down to the pawns. Nothing on this luxury chess set slides, tips or gets nudged out of position by a sleeve. You place a piece, it stays placed, and the small sound it makes on stone is half the pleasure of playing on one.

Stone Rather Than Wood
Marble gives the maker no second chances. Each square is cut, ground and polished to meet its neighbours dead flat, and a chip cannot be filled or sanded away — the piece is simply lost and the work starts again. That is why a chess set from stone is rare, and why the ones that exist tend to outlive the people who bought them.
A Gift Worth Giving
This is a desk gift with real gravity to it — for a retirement, an office, a study that needs one object nobody else has. Green marble sits well against old wood and dark leather, which is usually exactly where it ends up.
