Marbled green epoxy fills the dark squares of this luxury chess set, poured into a pale unstained beech board with a carry handle cut through each end, and two armies of cast metal warriors — shield-bearers, riders, robed royals, towers — stand on it. 50 × 50 cm / 19.6″ × 19.6″ open, handmade in Armenia, with felt inside and a bag.

This is the wooden chess set where the green does the work a carved frame usually does. Each square is a separate pour that swirls light and dark like malachite and is polished level with the beech; the coordinates sit on brass discs, a stitched line runs round the border, and the outline waves in scallops. The figures are cast in metal with a bronze finish on round cast bases, one army gold-toned and the other darkened — dense enough that you set a piece down rather than slide it.

Shut, the two handles meet and the board lifts in one hand; open it the other way and both halves are lined in black felt for the metal. There is no second game inside — it closes on bronze hinges and clasps, and the bag takes the lot.
