Luxury Floral Ornament Backgammon Table — Handmade in Armenia

A flower head with four sprays of curling leaves round it is carved inside a beaded ring at the centre of the lid on this luxury backgammon table, the ring set in a lobed panel and the rest of the top, the apron and the leg knees filled with carved lattice. On cabriole legs, 60 × 60 cm / 23.6″ × 23.6″ open, 70 cm / 27.6″ high, handmade in Armenia.

There is no metal on this one — the wooden backgammon table is all beech and carving, with a beaded, scalloped edge running round the lid and a felt-lined compartment under the swinging top. Unfolded across the frame, the field shows pale inlaid points with arrowhead tips, a fluted sun-wheel ringed with scrolls in each half, a vine band on the rails and a recess at each corner for the dice cup.

Turned wooden checkers in pale and dark sets, a dice cup and two dice come with it, and the legs unbolt for shipping.

Is the carving real? It is. The flower and its leaf sprays are relief carved from the lid itself, the beads, scallops and lattice are cut into the beech, and the points and sun-wheels inside are inlaid. Swing the hinged top aside for the compartment or unfold it flat for the game. Nothing is printed.
