Luxury Backgammon Table with Floral Ornament
A carved floral ornament sits at the centre of the closed lid inside a scalloped frame, and the fine lattice work does not stop there — it carries on down the apron and across the cabriole legs, so the whole table is worked rather than just its top. Closed, it reads as a decorative side table and nothing about it suggests a game.
Open it flat and there is a full 23.6" / 60 cm playing field inlaid in light and dark beech, with 32 checkers, a dice cup and dice. That is what a backgammon table gives you that a board never can: correct height, two chairs, nothing to move off the coffee table first. It is the difference between meaning to play and actually playing.
