This luxury chess table has a basket-weave frame carved round the inlaid board, four curved legs and a velvet-lined drawer on each side for the 32 figural bronze pieces. It stands 70 cm high with a 60 × 60 cm top (23.6″ × 23.6″ × 27.6″), and is handmade in Armenia from beech.

This is the chess table for the corner of the room that needed something to happen in it. The weave is carved in relief over the whole top and continues down the scalloped apron, the corners are worked into leafy scrolls, and each cabriole leg has a carved knee and a turned foot. The legs detach for shipping and fit back on.

The pieces are cast bronze on pale bases — crowned kings, horse-head knights — and live in the two drawers, which pull out on brass knobs and are lined in black velvet. Set it between two armchairs and it becomes the reason people stay after dinner.
