Personalized Flower Disc Armenian Backgammon Set, 4 Sizes — Handmade in Armenia

At the heart of this Armenian backgammon set a pale-wood disc carries a central flower ringed by scrolling leaves, drawn in dark line on the pale ground, set in a stepped cartouche with a diamond-lattice border; a name or short line can be added on request. Four sizes, 30 to 60 cm square (11.8″ to 23.6″), handmade in Armenia.

Flip it and the lattice border and stepped frame are repeated round an inlaid chequered panel, pale squares against dark, which leaves no plain side to the closed board.

The playing side is inlaid rather than carved: fleur-tipped pale points run up to a knotwork roundel in each half, a trough along each rail holds the checkers, and the hinges are brass-toned. Turned checkers in two woods, white dice and a black bag all appear in the photographs.
