In the year 301, tradition says, Gregory the Illuminator saw Christ descend in light and strike the ground with a golden hammer — and on that very spot Armenians raised Etchmiadzin, often called the oldest cathedral in the world. That is the building carved in fine relief at the center of this Armenian backgammon set: the Mother See, the church all the others answer to.
At 15.7" / 40 cm this is the compact traveler of the family — a handmade wooden backgammon board with a cut-out carry handle, light enough for the trip and serious enough for the rematch. Open it and a full nardi field waits inside, with sixteen centuries watching over the dice.
