Personalized Carpet Pattern Armenian Backgammon Set, 4 Sizes — Handmade in Armenia

Borrowed from carpet work, the disc on this Armenian backgammon set fills a dark ground with pale flowers, eight-point stars and stepped diamonds round a central blossom; the disc sits in a stepped cartouche with a diamond-lattice border, and a name or short line can be added on request. Four sizes, 30 to 60 cm square (11.8″ to 23.6″), handmade in Armenia.

Carpets have a back and so does this board: the reverse carries an inlaid chequered panel of pale and dark squares inside the same stepped frame and lattice.

Inside, each half is inlaid with a pale knotwork roundel between fleur-tipped points, a trough along the rail holds the checkers and the hinges are brass-toned; turned checkers in two woods, white dice and the black carrying bag are all in the photographs.

Which carpet pattern is it? A general carpet-style grid of blossoms, eight-point stars and stepped diamonds rather than a copy of one named rug. The photographs show one board and the design is the same across all four sizes; only the 30 cm board is a true travel size. Checkers, dice and the bag are photographed with it.
