Turquoise Epoxy Armenian Chess and Backgammon Set with Coat of Arms — Handmade in Armenia
In a bronze finish, the cast-metal coat of arms of Armenia sits at each end of this Armenian chess and backgammon set, above dark squares poured in turquoise epoxy on a pale frame cut with a diamond lattice. 15.7 × 15.7 in (40 × 40 cm) open, handmade in Armenia from beech, with pieces, checkers, dice and a bag.
This is the wooden chess set that arrives in colour. The turquoise is poured into each dark square and polished flush with the pale wood, so the marbling sits in the pour itself, and the field is a raised panel with brass coordinate discs beside it. The frame is left in natural beech, cut with a diamond lattice out to a waved edge, and the arms sit in a round recess at the top and bottom. The pieces are turned, one side dark-stained.
Inside, under the hinges, is the backgammon field, cut in line-work: lattice-filled points under a scalloped rail and a sun wheel in each half, with the wooden checkers and a dice set shown in the photos. It folds into its bag for travel — two games for a household with Armenia in it.

Good to Know Before You Buy
Is the turquoise painted on? No. The turquoise is epoxy resin poured into each carved square and polished level with the pale wood, so it is part of the board and the marbling is in the pour itself. The coat of arms is a cast metal disc in a bronze finish set into a round recess; the lattice and the points inside are cut into the beech.
