Backgammon Set Carved Tiger
Everything on this lid is moving except the tiger. Swirling clouds and scrollwork churn around the centre of this handmade wooden backgammon set, cut deep by hand, and in the middle of all that motion the tiger's head sits perfectly still and looks straight out at you. A braided border closes the whole thing in. It is an old trick and a good one — the calm thing at the centre of a busy field is always what the eye lands on first.
You will recognise the type across a table. Every circle has one player who does not fidget, does not comment, and does not appear to be doing much at all until the position quietly turns out to be theirs. Open the clasps, let the bronze hinges swing back, and there is the full 23.6" / 60 cm playing field where that gets settled. Carry this hand-carved backgammon board in by its cut-out handle, set it down between two chairs, and let the tiger watch the dice do all the running about.
