Backgammon Set Hand Carved - Watchful Lynx
A lynx does not stare at you; it assesses you. That is the expression the carver has caught on this hand-carved wooden backgammon set — the animal set inside a deep oval frame at the centre of the lid, ears tufted, gaze level, entirely unbothered and entirely aware. Flowing scrollwork opens out around the frame and a braided border closes the composition at the edge.
They are still out there in the Caucasus forests, incidentally, and almost nobody ever sees one. That is rather the point of the animal: it notices everything and gets noticed by nothing. Open the clasps, let the bronze hinges swing back, and the full 23.6" / 60 cm playing field belongs to whoever plays the same way — the one who says little, watches the blots pile up, and takes the whole game in two quiet moves. Carry this handmade backgammon board in by its cut-out handle and set it down.
