This non-folding chess set combines walnut, green resin, brass details and bronze pieces on marble bases. The walnut is left its own pale colour with the grain running through the field; the green is poured square by square and polished level, so every pour swirls differently; a diamond lattice is cut round the squares inside a beaded moulding; and the coordinates sit on brass discs. The board does not fold — it is meant to stay out.
The pieces combine cast bronze with marble bases. Each is cast in pierced bronze — crowns, horse heads, tower tops, filigree bodies — and fixed to a turned disc of real marble, so a piece has stone heft at the bottom and metal at the top and settles onto the resin with a click. The four feet are cast brass in a scrolled pattern, lifting the slab off the table.
