Luxury Green Epoxy Chess Set with Marble and Bronze Pieces
This is the heaviest and most elaborate chess set the workshop makes. The board is walnut, 19.6" / 50 cm across, with its dark squares poured in deep green epoxy resin, a diamond-lattice border carved by hand around them and ornate brass brackets at all four corners. It weighs 8 kg / 17.6 lb before you add a single piece.
Then there are the pieces. Every one is a sculpted bronze figure standing on a base of polished real marble — one army on pale stone, the other on dark — so the two sides are told apart by the mineral they stand on rather than by paint. Picking one up is the moment the set explains itself: bronze and stone together have a weight that no wooden piece can imitate, and they settle onto the resin squares with a sound you will want to hear again.
It is a luxury chess set in the plainest sense of the phrase — four materials, all real, all doing something. Wood for warmth, resin for colour, marble for weight, bronze for the figures. Set it up somewhere it can stay, because at this size and weight it is not a board you will want to be packing away between games.
