Luxury Georgian Coat of Arms Backgammon Table — Handmade in Armenia

Two lions hold a crowned shield with Saint George on it at the centre of the lid on this luxury backgammon table — the Georgian coat of arms carved in relief inside a beaded ring, with a smaller cast crest in a silver-toned finish at each end and another on the apron. On cabriole legs, 60 × 60 cm / 23.6″ × 23.6″ open, 70 cm / 27.6″ high, handmade in Armenia.

The same arms appear again inside: unfold the top across the frame and each half of the field carries the lions and shield inlaid in pale wood between pale points with arrowhead tips, with a vine band along the rails and a round recess at each corner for the dice cup. Closed, the wooden backgammon table is a lattice-carved side table with a felt-lined compartment under the swinging top.

Checkers are wooden, sixteen pale and sixteen dark, with a dice cup and two dice; and because the cabriole legs bolt on, the whole table can be taken down to a flat box in minutes and put back the same way.

Good to Know Before You Buy

Is the carving real? It is. The big arms on the lid are relief carved from the top itself, the beads and lattice are cut into the beech, the arms and points inside are inlaid, and the three small crests are cast metal in a silver-toned finish. Swing the hinged top aside for the compartment or unfold it flat for the game. Nothing is printed.
