Georgian Coat of Arms Backgammon Set with Lattice Lid

Georgian Coat of Arms Backgammon Set with Lattice Lid — Handmade in Armenia

Crown, shield and two rampant lions fill the rope-bordered roundel of this Georgian backgammon set: the coat of arms of Georgia carved in relief, Saint George on the shield and the motto ribbon folded beneath, on a stippled ground with lobed lattice panels either side. A cut-out carry handle passes through the top edge of each half. 60 × 60 cm / 23.6″ × 23.6″ open, handmade in Armenia.

Round the back, the wooden backgammon board is chequered — pale and dark squares inlaid flush between two lattice-filled lobed panels, with no carved discs on this one.

Inside, the same arms appear twice in pale inlaid wood with the motto ძალა ერთობაშია lettered below, one crest facing each player between fleur-tipped inlaid points; side grips, corner dice recesses and brass-toned hinges. Thirty-two wooden checkers and dice are included.

Why You'll Love It

• Heraldry at full size: the roundel gives the lions, crown and ribbon room, so each element is cut separately.
• Arms inside too: the crest is inlaid in pale wood in each half, motto and all, facing its player.
• Grip on both halves: a cut-out handle in each lid, so it carries closed either way up.

Good to Know Before You Buy

How does it differ from the other Georgian arms boards? This one keeps the arms alone in the roundel with lattice panels round it — no vine, flag or extra roundels on the lid — and the reverse has only the inlaid chequered panel with no whorl discs. The old copy listed a carrying bag that is not photographed, so it is not included here.

What about shipping and returns? Shipping is free worldwide and tracked. Every set is covered by our 30-day returns policy.

How do I look after it? Brush the carving with a soft dry brush and wipe the flat faces with a dry cloth. Keep the board out of direct sun and store it closed with the checkers inside.
