The armies match the ambition: 32 figural chess pieces cast in bronze on wooden bases, with a full 19.6" / 50 cm field to command. Fold the chessboard open and the second game appears — a complete backgammon set with 32 wooden checkers and dice, ready for the fast, loud hours after the slow, quiet ones.

This is a luxury chess set in the literal sense: more wood, more bronze, more hours than anything needs — unless it is meant to be permanent. The eternity knot says what the whole set means: buy it once, play it always, argue about who inherits it later.
