Introducing the Dance of Sasun Armenian backgammon set — a whole line of dancers with their arms linked, drummers and a piper at the ends and Mount Ararat behind them, carved in deep relief across a 23.6″ / 60 cm walnut board handmade in Armenia.

Open it and you have a plain walnut playing field, a sun drawn in each half, turned side bars for the checkers and brass clasps — a luxury backgammon set made for long evenings at the table as much as for the shelf.

Thirty-two wooden checkers, a dice set and a carrying bag come with it, so the first game can begin the evening it arrives.

Is the carving real? Yes. The dancers, drummers, mountain and fortress are cut in relief into the walnut, the ground is furrowed and stippled by hand, the edge is shaped and beaded, and the points and suns inside are cut in line work. Nothing is printed or pressed.
