Before Armenia became the first Christian nation, there was a woman who said no to a king. Hripsime paid for that refusal with her life — and when Armenia converted soon after, it built her one of the most beautiful churches it would ever raise. That church, standing since 618 AD, is carved at the centre of this handmade Armenian backgammon set: the compact cross plan, the pointed dome, the clean geometry that architects still study today.
It is a lot of history to set a game on, and the board wears it lightly. This hand-carved wooden backgammon board is quietly devotional — the church holds the centre, the field holds the game, and evenings around it tend toward the unhurried kind. Open the bronze clasps and the full 23.6" / 60 cm nardi field is ready; somewhere between rolls, someone will ask about the little church, and you will have a story worth telling.
