For a thousand years Armenians told the epic of David of Sassoun out loud, father to son, before anyone wrote it down in 1873 — the young giant who rode out alone on his war-horse Kurkik Jalali, Lightning Sword in hand, to turn back an entire army. On this Armenian backgammon set he is carved mid-charge: horse rearing, cloak flying, sword up.
Today the epic sits on UNESCO's heritage list and David stands in bronze in the middle of Yerevan. Put this handmade wooden backgammon board on your table and the story keeps travelling — with a full 23.6" / 60 cm playing field inside.
