Those are real ears of wheat. Not carved, not printed — actual heads of grain, laid out in a flowing herringbone across the lid of this luxury walnut backgammon set and sealed under clear amber epoxy resin, every husk and whisker still exactly where it grew. Somebody harvested them, arranged them by hand, and then stopped time on them.
Wheat is the oldest thing people farm and the first thing they ever put on a table, which makes it a quietly perfect subject for a board that will spend its life on one. The amber gives it the look of something preserved rather than decorated — closer to a specimen than an ornament. Open the clasps, let the bronze hinges swing back, and the full 23.6" / 60 cm playing field is underneath in solid walnut.
