Eagle Head Backgammon Set with Brass Emblems, 3 Sizes

Eagle Head Backgammon Set with Brass Emblems, 3 Sizes — Handmade in Armenia

Beak open and feathers layered back to the neck, an eagle's head in profile fills the rope-bordered roundel at the centre of this carved backgammon set, cut in relief over a stippled ground with a diamond lattice covering the lid around it. A smaller eagle head in brass sits in a recessed roundel at each end and a cut-out carry handle passes through the top edge of each half. Three sizes: 40, 50 or 60 cm square (15.7″, 19.6″ or 23.6″), handmade in Armenia.

The reverse of the wooden backgammon board carries a chequered panel inlaid in pale and dark squares between the same two brass eagle heads, with the lattice running out to the scalloped edge.

Inside, the halves open to a plain stained playing surface with rails along the edges to hold the checkers when the board is closed. Thirty-two wooden checkers and a pair of dice are included.

• Three sizes: 40 cm for travel, 50 for the shelf, 60 for the table — choose above.

Good to Know Before You Buy

Are the eagle's wings carved? No — the old listing described wings spread, but the carving is the head alone, in profile, filling the roundel. The side emblems are brass, not bronze. Only the two closed faces are photographed; the inside is a plain stained beech playing surface with rails for the checkers.

What about shipping and returns? Shipping is free worldwide and tracked. Every set is covered by our 30-day returns policy.

How do I look after it? Brush the carving with a soft dry brush and wipe the flat surfaces with a dry cloth. Keep the board out of direct sun and store it closed with the checkers inside.
