Backgammon Set Hand Carved - Hunter and Bear
Most carved boards give you a portrait. This one gives you a moment. Across the lid of this hand-carved wooden backgammon set a hunter stands facing a bear in the forest, cut in deep relief — the trees behind them, the ground under them, and neither one of them backing away. It is the hardest kind of carving there is, because two living figures in motion have to be believable from every angle, and a single heavy cut anywhere ruins the whole scene.
Nobody carves this and expects you to pick a side. The bear is bigger and the hunter came anyway; how it ends is genuinely unclear, which is exactly why you keep looking at it. Then you unhook the clasps, the bronze hinges swing open, and you sit down to a full 23.6" / 60 cm playing field where the same thing is about to happen with dice — one of you stronger on the board, one of you braver about the roll, and no way of knowing yet. This is a luxury backgammon set for people who like their equipment to have a story on it, and it carries to the table by its own cut-out handle.
