Georgia's outline in pale wood, its regions drawn in and its name lettered in Georgian script above it, fills the rope-rimmed roundel of this Georgian backgammon set, between leaf scrolls carved on a cross-hatched ground inside a rope-and-leaf border. A cut-out carry handle runs through each half. 60 × 60 cm / 23.6″ open, handmade in Armenia.

The reverse gives you a second game: an inlaid chequered panel of pale and dark squares sits between two carved cartouches of curling leaves and stippled grape clusters, with the second handle cut through this half.

Open, one half carries the map of Georgia inlaid in pale wood with every region named in Georgian, the other the Georgian coat of arms with its lions, crown and motto ribbon, both between fleur-tipped inlaid points. The pale and dark checkers, two dice and the carrying bag are all photographed.
