Armenian Backgammon Set - Ararat and Vineyard
The two things Armenians will tell you their land gave the world stand together on this hand-carved Armenian backgammon set: Mount Ararat above, a heavy cluster of grapes and vine leaves below. The pairing is older than it looks — the old story says that when the ark came to rest on Ararat, the first thing Noah planted at its foot was a vineyard.
So this handmade wooden backgammon board carries the original pairing: the mountain that sheltered a new beginning and the vine that celebrated it. Set out the checkers, fill two glasses, and let the board do what it was carved to do — hold the mountain, the harvest and the game in one place. Inside is a full 23.6" / 60 cm playing field.
