Some boards are carved; this one is dressed. A floral ornament opens at the center of the lid like a corsage in wood, and two bronze filigree discs are set beside it the way jewelry is set — deliberately, and exactly where the eye lands. An Armenian backgammon set with an evening-out elegance.
Underneath the finery it is all business: a finely cross-hatched carved ground, bronze hinges, and a full 23.6" / 60 cm nardi field inside. A handmade wooden backgammon board that dresses up the room between games and holds its own during them.
