Across Armenia, for more than a thousand years, faith has been carved rather than painted: the khachkar — the lace-carved cross-stone — is the country's signature art. This handmade Armenian backgammon set speaks that language. At the centre of the board a cross rises out of a knot of vine and geometry, wreathed in interlace the way the great cross-stones are.
It gives the game a different weight. Bring this hand-carved wooden backgammon board out and the room quiets a little — some boards entertain, this one means something.
