A lion lies at ease on a plinth above the word ROYAL on the lid of this luxury backgammon set, oak branches with acorns and scrolls rising either side — carved in relief on a 60 × 60 cm / 23.6″ × 23.6″ board with a scroll-cornered outline and a carry handle cut through each end, handmade in Armenia.

This is the wooden backgammon set that reads as a crest: the lion's mane and haunches stand off a plain ground, the leaves and acorns are veined and cupped, a beaded band runs under the plaque, and the outline is sawn to the scrolls with a boss at each corner. The far face carries a carved panel between two ribbon scrolls, and closed the two handles meet at the top.

The field waits under the lid, the pale wood plain and oiled: twelve points a side scored in fine lines with arrow tips, a flower in the centre of each half, the two handle slots open at the ends beside the troughs for the checkers and dice. Two brass clasps keep it closed.
