Cream and Brown Marble Chess Set with Bronze Pieces
This is the quiet one of the marble family, and probably the one most people would actually live with. Warm brown Emperador against cream, with a pale border drawn round the outside — no strong colour anywhere, just stone doing what stone does. The veining wanders differently across every board, which means the one you receive has a pattern nobody else owns and nobody could reproduce.
Fifteen kilos of it, 15.7" / 40 cm across, with 32 hand-cast bronze pieces standing on their own marble bases. What a stone chess set gives you that wood cannot is stillness: nothing warms up, nothing shifts, nothing creaks as the room changes temperature. You put a piece down and it stays exactly there, and a long game feels different played on a surface that refuses to move.

Stone Rather Than Wood
Sixty-four squares, each cut from natural stone and polished to meet its neighbours dead flat. There is no filler, no correction and no second attempt — a chipped corner means the square is scrapped. That is the real reason a chess set from stone is uncommon, and why the finished board is so exact when you run a hand across it.
A Gift Worth Giving
The safest of the marbles to give, because cream and brown offend nobody's decor. It reads as expensive without shouting, which is usually what you want when the gift has to be right rather than surprising.
