Luxury Armenian Backgammon Table with Coat of Arms
The coat of arms sits in the middle of the closed lid, carved large, with two smaller ones on either side of it and a fine lattice running across the legs and apron. An eagle and a lion holding up a crowned shield — an Armenian will read the whole thing without stopping, and everyone else will ask. Standing on its cabriole legs it works perfectly well as a side table, which is what it is most of the time.
Open it flat and a full 23.6" / 60 cm playing field appears, inlaid in light and dark beech, with the arms repeated at the centre of each half so the emblem is still there while you play. Thirty-two checkers in beech and walnut, a dice cup and dice. A backgammon table means nardi never has to be set up — you sit down at the right height, in the right chairs, and start.
