Personalized Knotwork Armenian Backgammon Set, 4 Sizes — Handmade in Armenia

A pale-wood oval of interlaced knotwork sits at the centre of this Armenian backgammon set, framed by a lobed cartouche cut into the dark lid, a diamond lattice filling each end; a name or short line can be added to the lid on request. Four sizes, 30 to 60 cm square (11.8″ to 23.6″), handmade in Armenia.

On the back the lattice returns at both ends, this time framing pale and dark squares inlaid as a panel, which gives the closed board a second face worth leaving upward.

Open, each half carries a pale inlaid knotwork roundel between fleur-tipped inlaid points, with a checker trough along each side and brass-toned hinges. The pale and dark turned checkers, the white dice and the black carrying bag are all photographed.
