A carry handle is cut through the frame of this travel chess and backgammon set, so it closes like a case — chess outside, backgammon inside — with line scrolls at the corners and a lattice band at each end. 40 × 40 cm / 15.7″ × 15.7″ open, handmade in Armenia, with pieces, checkers, dice and a bag.

This is the wooden chess set for the family that plays in two moods. The decoration is light — fine line work rather than deep relief — so the frame stays smooth under the hand, the outline waves gently on every side, and the coordinates sit beside the two-tone squares. Two brass clasps hold it shut; folded it is 20 × 40 cm.

Open the clasps and the inside is the backgammon field, ready for nardi with the 32 checkers and the dice. The chess pieces are turned in light and dark wood, 16 a side. Everything goes in the bag, and the handle means the bag is optional.
