A royal crown is carved in relief inside a scrolled cartouche at each end of this travel chess and backgammon set — chess outside, backgammon inside. It is 40 × 40 cm / 15.7″ × 15.7″, handmade in Armenia from beech and stained walnut brown, with 32 wooden chess pieces, 32 checkers, a dice set and a carrying bag.

This is the wooden chess set for the person who already acts like royalty at game night. The crown sits on a textured ground under a sweep of acanthus scrolls, big leafy scrolls fill all four corners, and the whole frame is cut in relief with a wavy edge to match. The coordinates are carved beside the squares.

Open the bronze clasps and the backgammon board inside is drawn in clean line work — points, bar and rails — with nothing to distract from the checkers. Thirty-two chess pieces in light and dark wood, checkers and dice go in the bag. Whoever wins holds the crown until the next game.
