Armenian Walnut Chess Set with Mount Ararat and Scrollwork
Every Armenian household knows this mountain. It sits on the horizon above Yerevan, snow on both peaks, and it is on the far side of a border nobody in the family crossed. Here it is inlaid into the lid of a folding walnut chess board, small and precise, with hand-carved scrollwork flowing around it — a carved chess set that carries the one image an Armenian will recognise from across a room.
The board itself is honest, useful equipment. Walnut and beech, 15.7" / 40 cm of playing field, 32 turned pieces, and a built-in carry handle cut into the folded edge so you can pick the whole thing up in one hand and go.
